Poor Man's spaghetti

Hellooooo my Super Sexy Modern Latina's!!!

I have been cooking up a storm at my house. Yes nena, yours truly even made tortillas. My tortillas were not perfectly round like the ones at the supermarket, but they were fun to make. And I didn't char one to ash mi'ja!!! Yay!!! The first meal I made was what my Grandma called "Fideo." What it is, is a very thin spaghetti/vermicelli. She would make it like you would make a basic Mexican rice, with all the same spices and ingredients. But she would first fry up little bits of beef stew meat in some oil, and then add the fideo and remaining spices. It is a delicious tomato sauce noodle dish with chunks of beef stew meat. It kind of reminds me of a poor man's spaghetti and meat balls. This is the best way I can describe it. Although my version was okay, it lacked a little bit of salt. Your nena is afraid of adding too much salt, after that unfortunate Mexican rice incident. My hand was a little heavy with the salt, and the whole dish was a waste! In the words of my Grandpa "Gatos Prietos!" (which translates to 'black cats' which is an expression for bad luck).

So here is my take on my Grandma's version of Fideo:

Ingredients:

1 can of tomato sauce

1 lb package of beef stew meat

1/2 an onion (peeled)

1 tsp. of garlic salt

1 tsp. of cumino (cumin)

1 tsp. of salt to taste

1 pkg. of fideo noodles (found in the Mexican food isle)

1 tbsp. of cooking oil

What to do, what to do:

1. 1st add 1 tbsp. of cooking oil to a large pan, let it heat up.

2. Fry the beef stew meat until mostly browned/carmalized.

3. After the meat is mostly browned remove from the pan and set aside.

4. Fry the fideo until golden brown in the same pan, (you may need to add another table spoon of cooking oil to fry the fideo).

5. Put the meat back into the pan with the fideo.

6. Add 1 glass of water to the pan.

7. Add 1 can of tomato sauce to the pan, and add cumino, garlic salt, and cooking salt, and 1/2 of onion.

8. Bring all the ingredients to a boil.

9. After the ingredients are brought to a boil, reduce heat to low and let the fideo and meat simmer for 15 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed and fideo is soft.

And Voila! You have just made fideo!!! Delish!!!

*Fideo may be served with fresh beans and tortillas. Enjoy!!!*
